Its mixtape time. No foolin’.
This month’s edition of JayeL Audio has an adequate balance of a multitude of genres, that should please most of you. Indie pop shined with percussive cuts like Robyn Sherwell’s hypnotizing “Islander” and Broken Back’s tropical pop influenced gem “Hacyon Birds”. Hazy rock made a triumphant return with Tame Impala’s new single “Let It Happen”, a new sound for Toro y Moi on “Spell It Out” and Detroit’s own Gosh Pith via “Prints”. I couldn’t resist the very diverse collection of dance rhythms as Jack U brought in Missy Elliot to add even more energy to the Kiesza-featured remix of “Take U There”, The Chainsmokers got help from Great Good Fine Ok on new synth-friendly original “Let You Go” and Tanlines dabbles with retro dance sounds on “Slipping Away”.
Folk rock had the lion’s share of tracks on this month’s mixtape though. Newcomer Will Joseph Cook hit George Ezra heights on “Message”, while The Tallest Man On Earth returned with more Bob Dylan-inspired sounds on “Sagres” and Freedom Fry kept their catchy hit parade going on “Yeah You”. Favorite of the month was no doubt Lord Huron’s latest home-run single “Hurricane (Johnnie’s Theme)”. I wouldn’t say I 100% know the concept their highly anticipated sophomore album Strange Trails (Amazon), but the old Western character Ben Schneider inhabits on the track has an intriguing hint of darkness behind those wonderfully cheery handclaps and guitar riffs.
